Boys volleyball: Big comeback helps Buffalo Grove clinch in MSL East

Host Rolling Meadows didn't make it easy for Buffalo Grove, but ultimately the visiting Bison were able to clinch an outright East Division boys volleyball championship with a 25-19, 25-23 decision Thursday.

Buffalo Grove (19-9, 9-0) trailed 18-11 and 21-15 in the second set before fighting back to claim victory.

Bison coach Tim Kosiek said key plays from Zach Schnittker, Chris Tsourmas and Daniel Ragowski made the difference down the stretch.

Schnittker finished with 11 kills and 27 assists and also went 11-for-11 serving. Other key performers for BG included Rogowski (6 kills), Tsourmas (5 kills) and Ian VanWazer (4 kills).

Elk Grove d. Prospect: Kevin Braceros had a big effort for the visiting Grens, coming up with team highs of 11 kills and 16 digs to lead Elk Grove past the Knights 25-21, 25-22.

Shivam Patel had 6 kills and Connor Emmerich and Brendon Rathman 5 apiece for Elk Grove, and setter Ed Gonzalez finished 54-of-55 for 29 assists.

Liam Benson paced Prospect with 8 kills and also had 6 digs, while Scottie Baackes had 14 assists and Patrick Szuba had 4 kills.

Conant d. Hoffman Estates: The host Cougars produced a strong third set to win 25-17, 19-25, 25-18 in MSL West action.

Leaders for Hoffman Estates included Miguel Pineda (8 kills, 13 digs), Daniel Ham (8 digs), James Swan (5 kills), Alan Zapinski (6 assists, 3 kills, 3 blocks), T.J. Rodgers (6 assists) and Bailey Maze (11-for-11 serving, 1 ace, 3 digs, 2 blocks).

St. Viator d. Joliet Catholic: The visiting Lions rolled past Joliet Catholic 25-23, 25-13 as James Woods led the way with 9 kills, 3 blocks and an ace in East Suburban Catholic Conference play.

St. Viator (18-8, 4-1) got 5 kills and 3 blocks from Max Hogan, and Collin Cull had a team-best 13 setting assists.
