Pedestrian killed in early morning Volo crash

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Thursday morning crash in Volo that left a pedestrian dead, authorities said.

The crash took place about 2:30 a.m. on Route 12, just south of Route 120, said Lake County Sheriff's Det. Chris Covelli. He said a preliminary investigation shows a 2008 Ford Mustang was heading south on Route 12 when it struck a woman crossing the road.

Covelli said it is unknown why the woman was crossing the roadway at that time. The identity of the woman is being withheld pending notification of family.

The Lake County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy Friday morning, authorities said.

The male driver of the Ford Mustang was not identified, pending the outcome of the investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Technical Crash Unit.
