COD offers Citizens Public Safety Academy

A Citizens Public Safety Academy, designed to give participants a chance to become more aware of and involved with their own safety, is being offered at the College of DuPage's Homeland Security Training Institute.

Classes will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays, June 7 to Aug. 2, in the Homeland Security Education Center on campus, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.

While this program is free and open to the public, registration is required. Enrollment is limited to 25 participants ages 18 or older and a background check is required. Participants must register by Tuesday, May 17.

Participants will learn about a broad range of topics presented by law enforcement and emergency response experts from a variety of organizations, including the College of DuPage Police Department, DuComm 911 call center, the DuPage County coroner, the DuPage County Office of Emergency Management, Naperville Community Crime Stoppers, the Naperville Fire Department, the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy, USPS and Walgreens.

Covering topics such as crime prevention, frauds and scams, disaster response, fire safety and firearm safety, participants also will take part in off-site tours, presentations and complete a variety of interactive activities.
