Spotlight Youth Theater stages 'Mulan Jr.'

Spotlight Youth Theatre DuPage is taking audiences on a trip through time, taking theatergoers to ancient China where a daughter will defy conventions, save China and bring honor to her family.

With 91 actors ranging in age from 8 to 18, Spotlight is staging "Disney's Mulan Jr." over two weekends at the Compass Auditorium, 1551 E. Hobson Road, Naperville. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays, May 6 to 15.

In the show, Mulan defies the village matchmaker and disguises herself as a boy to spare her father from having to serve in the army. The Huns have invaded, and it's up to Mulan and her mischievous sidekick, Mushu, to save the Emperor.
