Aurora man faces gun-related charge

A 23-year-old Aurora man suspected of firing several shots at another man in the early morning hours of Tuesday has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, authorities said Wednesday.

Police said the charge against Terrance J. Henson of the 1900 block of Lilac Lane stemmed from a report of shots fired about 12:40 a.m. in the parking lot of the west side apartment complex where he lives.

Henson told police he was outside talking on his cellphone when he was approached by two men - one of whom was armed - who got out of a white vehicle. When one of the men threatened him, Henson said he started to run and heard a gunshot.

After reaching the safety of his apartment, Henson said he grabbed his own gun and, after waiting a few minutes, went back outside where he saw one of the men sneaking up on him. He said he fired several shots at the man and ran back inside.

No injuries were reported but a parked vehicle was hit by gunfire, causing about $100 damage.

Police responded to a 911 call and Henson surrendered without incident.

Henson described the other two men as male Hispanics. The armed man is said to be around 35 years old and bald, standing about 5 feet 9 inches and wearing a gray or white hooded sweatshirt. The second man was said to be wearing a white tank top.

Police said it appears Henson may have been targeted for the attack; there is no indication the case is gang-related.

Henson's bond was set at $5,000 and he is being held in the Kane County Correction Center in St. Charles.
