New Libertyville furniture store opening with charity fundraising

One of Libertyville's newest businesses will host its grand opening with a twist Thursday.

Mayor Terry Weppler will cut the ceremonial ribbon at 5 p.m. to welcome Cheny Furniture, 801 E. Park Ave. (Route 176), and door prizes will be offered to families that attend.

However, besides the usual opening activities, the independent furniture store is making a statement with its arrival by helping two local organizations.

Cheny will donate $10,000 in furniture to Lambs Farm, a not-for-profit organization that helps people with developmental disabilities lead productive lives. The store also will hold a charity raffle to benefit Feed My Starving Children, which provides meals to the underprivileged around the globe.

"I think as a small business the most important thing is to establish yourself in the community and show you want to be part of the community," said store manager Ceil Grayson.

On Saturday afternoon, free hot dogs and beverages will be served to anyone visiting the store, and a live DJ, games and prizes will be offered. The store also will have special buys as part of its grand opening week, starting at 5 p.m. Thursday through May 12. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
