Newcastle is in 17th place on 33 points, immediately above Sunderland on 32 points. The Black Cats drew 1-1 against Stoke and have a game in hand over Newcastle.

At the other end, West Ham won 3-0 at West Bromwich Albion with two goals from Mark Noble to provisionally go fifth.
