Bills release linebacker AJ Tarpley, tight end Jacob Maxwell

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Bills have freed roster space by releasing linebacker A.J. Tarpley and tight end Jacob Maxwell.

Tarpley announced last month that he was retiring after one season rather than risk another concussion. Tarpley said he had two concussions last year and four throughout his career.

Maxwell finished last season on the Bills practice squad and was signed to a reserve/future contract in January.

The moves were announced Friday, before the Bills resume the NFL draft with a second- and third-round pick. Buffalo has eight picks in the draft, which it opened Thursday by selecting Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson with the 19th pick.
