Baseball: Elk Grove's Camacho whiffs 18 in victory

Christian Camacho has been pitching well all spring for Elk Grove's baseball team.

On Friday, though, he took it to the next level.

The senior righty struck out 18 in a complete game as the Mid-Suburban East leaders prevailed 4-1 against Conant.

Camacho allowed 5 hits and 3 walks. He tossed 111 pitches, and threw first-pitch strikes to 23 of the 31 batters he faced.

Jack McEnroe and Ryan Uehara both had 2 hits for Elk Grove (13-6, 7-1), and A.J. Navarro finished 3-for-3 with 2 RBI. Camacho also drove in a run.

Jimmy Roberts had a double for Conant (9-12, 3-5).

Barrington 2, Buffalo Grove 1 (8 inn.): Starter Levi Palomo allowed 2 hits over 6 innings while striking out seven to help host Barrington pull out a tight victory.

The Bison tied it at 1-1 by scoring once in the top of the seventh against reliever Brett Budzak, who ended up getting the win when Barrington scoring another run in the eighth inning.

Patrick Dehnert scored the winning run. He reached on a hit-by-pitch and scored on an error.

Colin Starvel went 3-for-4 with a double. Zach Balogh drove in the Broncos' first run with a double and Jimmy Day also doubled for MSL West leader Barrington (16-6, 8-1).

Buffalo Grove (9-9, 5-3) pitcher Jack Vaselaney also produced a strong effort. He struck out five and allowed 5 hits over 7 innings.

Prospect 11, Hoffman Estates 1: The visiting Knights did the bulk of their scoring over the final three innings to make a winner of Pasquale Atteo in a complete-game effort.

Atteo struck out seven, walked one and allowed 7 hits.

Grant Whitebloom homered, finishing his day at the plate 2-for-2 with a walk, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Richie Baszek went 4-for-5 with a double and 3 RBI, and Ryan Howe, Ryan Moline and Brendan O'Brien each had 2 hits for Prospect (12-5, 4-4).

Lucas Barnes came up with 2 hits for the Hawks (7-10, 2-7).

Fremd 5, Hersey 1: The host Vikings did all their scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning to make a winner of Eric Bennes, who was dominant in a complete-game 1-hitter with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks.

The Huskies scored on a fielder's choice in the first inning and led heading into the bottom half of the sixth.

JT Kolderup drove in the go-ahead run and finished 2-for-3 with a double for Fremd (10-4, 6-2), which climbed into second place in the MSL West. Ethan Hajdukovic also had 2 hits, a double and an RBI for the Vikes.

Chris Rodriguez had the hit for Hersey (5-12, 2-6). Tanner Luke kept Fremd scoreless through 5 innings. He allowed 2 hits, struck out seven and walked four.

Palatine 2, Rolling Meadows 1 (9 inn.): Ryan Anderson pitched all 9 innings for the host Pirates, allowing 5 hits and striking out nine while tossing 109 pitches.

Rolling Meadows starter Mark Dillon lasted 7 innings, giving up 5 hits and striking out five, with only an unearned run allowed.

Brendan Walker drove in Charlie Van Dyke with a game-winning single for Palatine (11-10, 6-3). Danny Amato also had an RBI in the second inning.

Justin Thompson drove in the run for Meadows (0-16, 0-8) with a groundout in the fourth inning.

Schaumburg 6, Wheeling 0: Andrew Ralston was in command for the Saxons, throwing 7 shutout innings and striking out 11 as the Saxons picked up an MSL victory.

Ralson allowed 3 hits - all singles - and 1 walk.

Jacob Rintz finished 2-for-2 with 2 RBI, and Ralston also had 2 hits. Parker Nolan, Jack Bellinger and Tyler Fredrickson each drove in 1 run for Schaumburg (11-8, 5-4).

Wheeling slipped to 9-12 overall and 2-6 in the MSL East standings.
