Baseball: Lee's blast helps Warren past Wauconda
Ricky Lee's two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth provided the game's only runs, as Warren's baseball team blanked visiting Wauconda 2-0 in North Suburban Conference crossover action on Friday.
Evan Hill and Ryan Davila pitched the combined shutout, as Warren hiked its record to 16-5. Hill pitched 5⅓ innings, surrendering 5 hits, while striking out five and walking none. Davila threw the final 1⅔ innings, picking up 3 strikeouts.
Drake Berman suffered the tough-luck loss, allowing no earned runs in 6 innings pitched. He struck out 10 and walked two. Wauconda's Greg LePage was 2-for-2.
Lake Zurich 2, Antioch 1: Matt Svanson got the win, allowing just 3 hits and 1 run in 5 innings pitched, striking out three and walking one in the North Suburban crossover.
Ben Cornelius finished up on the mound for the Bears, giving up just 2 hits and no walks while striking out two to earn the save.
Lake Zurich got doubles from Nick Sanders and Austin Wells.
Libertyville 9, Vernon Hills 6: Ben Kimpler hit a solo homer, tripled and singled, going 3-for-3 for the host Wildcats in the North Suburban crossover.
Jack Petersen was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI for Libertyville, and Daniel Marks was 3-for-4. Brian Murphy also had a big game at the plate for the Wildcats, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Lukas Plunkett doubled as well for Libertyville.
Vernon Hills' Nick Marras was 2-for-3.
Grant 3, Zion-Benton 2: The Bulldogs improved to 13-8 with the North Suburban crossover win.
Aidan Earl (2-1) picked up the win, pitching 6⅓ innings, striking out seven. Bryan Libby recorded his second save.
Offensively for the Bulldogs, Ben Kusiak was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Matt Mason went 1-for-3 with a double and 2 runs scored.
Lake Forest 2, Lakes 0: Cal Couglin picked up the win for the host Scouts in the North Suburban crossover.
Lakes (8-11) got a strong pitching performance from Tim Ohlwein, who allowed just 1 earned run and 3 hits in 6 innings.
Mundelein 10, North Chicago 0: Eric Pettett earned the win in the North Suburban crossover.
Crystal Lake South 3, Grayslake Central 2: Kyle Allen had a double for the Rams in their Fox Valley Conference loss.
Rams pitcher Justin Shepley allowed just 1 earned run in 5 innings.
