Elburn to hire new police chief
Oswego Deputy Police Chief Nicholas Sikora will become Elburn's new police chief Monday.
Elburn President Dave Anderson will appoint Sikora, with the consent of the village board.
Sikora is retiring from Oswego after 26 years with the village, starting as a patrol officer. His last promotion came in 2015, to deputy chief of field operations.
He once served a year as interim chief, while the regular chief filled in as interim village administrator.
Former Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez has overseen Elburn's department since the retirement of Steven Smith in January.
Sikora would be paid $95,000 a year, Anderson said, and will likely start the second week of May.
Thirty-eight people applied for the Elburn vacancy, Anderson said.
Sikora was with Oswego during a period of tremendous growth. It went from a population of 3,875 in 1990 to 30,355 in 2010, according to Census records. Oswego has 47 sworn officers and eight community service officers, according to the department's Web page.
Elburn has three full-time sergeants, four full-time officers and at least eight part-time officers.
