Wife to discuss murder case against husband at college forum

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - The current wife of a former Quincy prosecutor charged with killing his first wife in 2006 is speaking out.

Christine Lovelace and Doug Longheni, a producer for the CBS show "48 Hours," will discuss Curtis Lovelace's case on Friday at the University of Illinois' College of Law auditorium.

Lovelace told the News-Gazette (http://bit.ly/1WUx9LE ) she will talk about their relationship and their family dynamic while he's behind bars awaiting trial. Lovelace called the situation "an absolute nightmare of unmeasurable proportions."

Curtis Lovelace was arrested in 2014 after Quincy police took a fresh look into the death of his first wife, Cory Lovelace. Her cause of death was originally ruled inconclusive.

Prosecutors have accused Lovelace of suffocating Cory Lovelace in her sleep on Valentine's Day 2006. Defense attorneys argued she died of natural causes.

Lovelace's first trial ended in a mistrial in February and his new trial is scheduled to begin in late July.

"48 Hours" first aired a segment about the case in February, and a second segment will air at a later date.

The family initially chose to decline media interview requests. But Christine Lovelace said "it became evident that we were going to need to share some of what was going on in our family."

Curtis Lovelace also played college football at the University of Illinois. The News-Gazette reported a plaque with Lovelace's name engraved on it remains on display in the Memorial Stadium recruiting lounge.
