Loop bus service has ended 5-year run in Davenport area
DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - The Loop bus won't be returning to serve the Davenport area this spring.
The Quad-City Times (http://bit.ly/1rx3hcw ) reports that the five-year service succumbed to budget constraints. It was designed to complement the fixed-route services provided by Bettendorf Transit, Davenport Citibus and MetroLINK.
The Loop buses debuted in February 2010, connecting the downtowns of Bettendorf and Davenport in Iowa and the downtowns of Moline and Rock Island and the village of East Davenport in Illinois. It attracted 11,000 riders in each of its final six-month stints in 2014 and 2015.
Becky Passman is project manager and Iowa Quad-Cities transit coordinator with the Bi-State Regional Commission, and she says that without subsidies, the cities and MetroLINK would have had to find money in their already tight budgets to continue the service.
