Wisconsin man, 66, dies in crash near Zion

Authorities on Tuesday identified the 66-year-old man who died Monday after a crash near the Van Patten Woods Forest Preserve in an unincorporated area near Zion.

An autopsy performed Tuesday morning by the Lake County Coroner determined the death of Keith Hayden, of Bristol, Wisconsin, was from multiple injuries he suffered in the motor vehicle crash. Alcohol intoxication was a contributing factor to his death, according to Lake County Sheriff's Detective Christopher Covelli.

As Hayden was exiting the forest preserve, his 2007 Cadillac CTS stopped, for unknown reasons, on Route 173 in lanes of traffic, police said. A 2001 Ford Expedition traveling westbound on Route 173 struck the driver's side of the Cadillac.

Hayden was taken to Vista Medical Center East where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Ford, a 51-year-old man, was taken to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
