Naperville OKs apartments near Metra station

A 39-unit apartment building will be constructed near Naperville's 5th Avenue Metra station.

The city council unanimously approved plans for the block-long building that will replace a mechanic's shop, two houses described as "dilapidated" and two vacant lots at 4th Avenue and Ellsworth Street, which is south of the Metra station and east of Burlington Square Park.

The building will be four stories tall and 305 feet long with 15 one-bedroom apartments and 24 two-bedroom units.

Planning and zoning commission members and neighbors welcomed the development as a sign of needed reinvestment in the area. Once built and rented, the apartments could be converted to condos.
