Girls soccer: Prospect edges Lake Zurich, wins own tournament

Prospect's girls soccer team celebrated a championship effort in the tournament it hosted, claiming the title of the eight-team event by topping Lake Zurich 2-1 in Saturday afternoon's title game.

Lake Zurich got an early goal from Rebecca Kubin and led 1-0 at the half.

Prospect roared back in the second half, getting a pair of goals by Shawna Stokes (with assists from Andi Marfilius and Ella Marzolf).

Keeper Mehgan Rickett, who earlier in the day earned a shutout in the Knights' 1-0 semifinal victory against Wauwatosa East (Wis.), kept LZ scoreless in the second half.

Against Wauwatosa, Marzolf had the Knights' goal.

Prospect won three straight in tournament play to improve its record to 8-2-2 overall.
