Softball: South Elgin, Geneva win tourney titles

Stacy Bellack singled home Alexa Rogalla with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as South Elgin's softball team defeated Crystal Lake South 3-2 in the championship game of the Woodstock tournament.

Alissa Hargett had 2 hits for the Storm (9-11) as did Mariah Spivey. Rogalla had a double that scored Hargett with the tying run in the seventh and Graceanne Aldred added an RBI while Bailey MClure had a double.

Geneva Pollman earned the win, going all 7 innings and allowing 9 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Taylor Kassel (2 hits) and Samantha Burgard (RBI) each had doubles for Crystal Lake South, which committed 4 errors in the game. Chloe Skorija took the loss for the Gators (6-8).

In earlier games, South Elgin defeated Alden-Hebron 8-1 in the semifinals and Harvard 16-1 in the opening round.

McClure had 3 doubles in the win over Hebron while Bellack and Aldred each doubled and Spivey tripled and had 3 RBI. Paige Salamone was the winning pitcher.

Against Harvard, Allison Kaiser had a triple and 2 RBI, Hannah Gordon 3 hits with 2 doubles and 4 RBI, Spivey 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI and Haley Szubert a double. Pollman was the winning pitcher.

CL South defeated Johnsburg 1-0 in the first round and Conant 9-6 in the semifinals.

Calley Giuffre had a double and an RBI in the win over Johnsburg and Burgard picked up the win in the circle.

In the win over Conant, Carly Chovanec (4 hits, 4 RBI) and Brookelynn Maddox (2 hits, 2 RBI) each hit home runs for the Gators and winning pitcher Christina Toniolo had a triple, as did Maddie Bush.

Geneva 14, Bartlett 7: The Vikings (13-4) won the tournament title at Rolling Meadows behind winning pitcher Rachel Fanella, who also went 3-for-4 with a walk and 2 RBI. Katie Geary was 2-for-3 with 2 walks and 2 RBI, and Katie Keller scored 4 runs with a single and 3 walks.

The Vikings also defeated Palatine 10-0 and Rolling Meadows 13-0. Bartlett beat Maine West 12-4 in the semifinals.

St. Charles North 4, Cary-Grove 1: Ashlyn Jozefowicz had 2 hits with a triple and 3 RBI to lead the North Stars (10-2) to a nonconference win. Ali Moberg added a double and an RBI for SCN while Jordyn Wolfe tripled and Amanda James, Sam Hausl and Sam Vaca had doubles. Jillian Waslawski picked up the win, allowing 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and no walks in 7 innings. Akyssa Gurgone and Colleen Kaveney doubled for Cary-Grove (5-10). Emma Hill suffered the loss.

Marian Central 4, Jacobs 3: Emily Borg had 2 hits with a home run and 3 RBI, Sarah Murray added a double and Kerri Healy had 2 hits for Jacobs (2-8) in this nonconference loss. Brittany Feldmann was the losing pitcher.

Kaneland falls twice: Playing at the Washington tournament, the Knights (12-8) lost to LaSalle-Peru 4-3 and Barrington 6-2. Lexi Abruzzo had a double and an RBI and Meg Cohrs added 2 hits and 2 RBI against L-P while Courtney Davis was the losing pitcher. Cohrs had 2 hits with a double and Katie Kurzrock 2 hits against Barrington. Aly Jesionowski took the loss.

Westminster sweeps: Winning pitcher Becca Fugiel had 3 hits with a home run and 2 RBI to lead the Warriors to a 9-8 win in Game 2 of a nonconference doubleheader against Timothy Christian. Rachel Schmitt added 3 hits and an RBI while Dana Rio and Kristen Mason (2B) each had 2 hits. In Game 1, Sophia Hopkins (RBI) and Sarah Schmitt (3 RBI) each had 3 hits with triples for Westminster (4-8) in a 17-10 win. Drew Randazzo added 2 hits and Kaylee Johnson had 4 RBI. Mason was the winning pitcher.
