Daily Herald report

Families celebrated Earth Day Saturday at Peck Farm Park in Geneva. The ninth annual event was sponsored by the city's Natural Resources Committee and the Geneva Park District. Residents could purchase rain barrels, receive a bicycle safety check, learn best green practices and shred documents for free.

People could trade books at the Geneva Public Library's "take a book or leave a book" table, or clean out closets by recycling shoes with Jolly Old Soles, which provides them to local organizations helping needy families, and giving textiles to US Again.

Other highlights included a small petting zoo, chalk art, children's activities and chair massages.

For more information about Earth Day, call the Geneva Park District at (630) 262-8244 or visit www.genevaparks.org.

People can learn more about Geneva's Natural Resources Committee by visiting the city's website at www.geneva.il.us or "Geneva NRC" on Facebook.
