Addison man gets 52 years for murder, attempted murder

An Addison man convicted of murdering his wife and stabbing his teenage stepson in 2013 begins a 52 year prison sentence this morning. Kurtis Worley, 35, faced between 26 and 90 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. Full story.

Elgin schools on brief lockdown after shooting

Two Catholic schools in Elgin were briefly placed on lockdown yesterday while police investigated a report of shots fired, officials said. There were no reported injuries or damage after the call came in about 11:53 a.m. regarding a shooting on the 200 block of Jewett Street, a block from St. Laurence Catholic School, Cmdr. Illinois wants tax money back from local governments

Local government officials across Illinois forgot to call no takebacks. Officials who for years have complained state payouts are delayed or too small now owe Illinois millions of dollars because of a tax miscalculation, the Department of Revenue announced. Full story.

Mount Prospect, United strike deal ending plan for truck parking

Mount Prospect and United Airlines have not only settled their differences surrounding the use of a 6-acre parcel at the southeast corner of Dempster Street and Linneman Road in unincorporated Cook County, but they are now in talks about developing the site and surrounding land. The Mount Prospect village board voted this week to postpone plans to forcibly annex the property at 1200 W. Dempster St., an effort launched last month to prevent United from leasing the site as a parking lot for trucks. Full story.

Tech experts point to Ventra app vulnerability

Kane Co. property tax bills coming soon: Average increase 1%

The average Kane County tax bill will increase $53 this year. It's the second straight year taxpayers will pay more. Figures released by the Kane County treasurer's office show the average tax bill will be $6,574 in 2016, an increase of less than 1 percent. Full story.
