Reel life: 'Merchants of Doubt' screening, discussion at Metropolis

Critics notebook:

• The League of Women Voters will sponsor a showing of one of the most important journalism documentaries of the 21st century so far, “Merchants of Doubt,” at 7 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, 111 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights.

• One of the greatest movie musicals ever made, “Singin' in the Rain,” initiates Elk Grove Village's 60th anniversary celebration at 7 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Elk Grove Theatre, 1050 Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove Village. Admission $1. Elk Grove Village resident and film critic Erik Childress, on the Chicago Film Critics Association board of directors, will introduce the film. classiccinemas.com.

• The After Hours Film Society presents Charlie Kaufman's Oscar-nominated animated comic drama “Anomolisa” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Tivoli Theatre, 5021 Highland Ave., Downers Grove. Admission $10 ($6 for members). afterhoursfilmsociety.com.
