Girls soccer: Coleman helps Antioch to tournament-opening victory

Courtney Coleman scored her 10th goal of the season and added her fifth assist, as Antioch's girls soccer team opened its own tournament with a 3-2 win over Westosha Central on Friday.

Antioch (4-3-2) led 2-0 at halftime en route to its fourth win in a row.

Tessa Furlong and Rachel Moore also scored for the Sequoits, while Lauren Slack added an assist.

Wauconda 3, Richmond-Burton 2: Briana Vargas scored twice and added an assist, and the Bulldogs did all of their scoring after halftime to open the Richmond-Burton tournament with a 3-2 win over the host school.

Wauconda (6-0-2) trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Erica Miller also scored for Wauconda, while Ally Magiera made 4 saves in net.

"Wauconda was on the attack for most of the game, but Richmond's back row really does a good job of packing in and keeping the ball out of the net," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "We were definitely frustrated in the first half. We are obviously happy with how our ream responded in the second half. Briana Vargas really took over the early part of the second half, scoring from pretty far out both times. We jumped out to a 3-1 lead, and Richmond came back with another late goal. They are so dangerous on corners and set pieces. It was a result we will gladly take."

Grayslake North 3, Rockford Auburn 0: At Johnsburg, Lauren Davis scored twice, including once on a penalty kick, as the Knights opened the tournament with the shutout win.

Freshmen McKenna Brooks (goal) and Lauren Hansen (assist) got the scoring started for Grayslake North (5-2-1).

Corryn Smith added an assist, while Knights keeper Abby Rice made 2 saves in earning the shutout.
