New Rosemont mural planned

Rosemont is enlisting a Chicago artist to design and paint a mural inside the entertainment district parking garage.

Rahmaan Statik Barnes has been commissioned for $65,000 as lead artist on a mural that will honor Rosemont's history, as the village celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.

Barnes has designed and created other murals in the neighborhood north of the Allstate Arena, oftentimes with the help of student apprentices. Murals have featured the Chicago Wolves, a sports-themed design near the Barry Recreational Center multipurpose field, and Mexican historical images across the street.

Officials say his newest mural near the garage first floor valet area may incorporate mosaic tiles. It is expected to be complete by October.
