Softball: Yurgil leads Burlington C., St. Edward's Zdroik whiffs 16

Danielle Yurgil's single in the top of the seventh inning drove home Kristina Ahlers with the eventual game-winning run as Burlington Central's softball team defeated Richmond-Burton 6-5 Thursday in a Big Northern East game at R-B.

Ahlers had 3 hits with a home run and 2 RBI for the Rockets (8-2, 4-1) and Ashley Ratliff picked up the win in the circle in relief of Emily Kisch, who struck out 7 in 4 innings.

St. Edward 5, Wheaton Academy 0: Lindsay Zdroik struck out 16, walked 1 and allowed just 4 hits while stroking 2 hits with a double herself as the Green Wave (4-1, 3-0) won in the Metro Suburban West. Emily Stapay had 3 hits with 2 doubles and an RBI for St. Edward while Devyn Ernst added a double and an RBI.

Bartlett 5, Elgin 0: In the Upstate Eight, Danielle Kirby fired a 1-hitter with 8 strikeouts and no walks, Elyse Hickey had a double and a triple and Katie Fornoff tripled to lead Bartlett (8-4, 4-1) to the win. Jessica Rago suffered the loss for the Maroons.

West Aurora 6, Geneva 3: Jamie McCreedy had a home run and a double and Corey McCreedy went 4-for-4 to lead West Aurora (7-0, 4-0) to this UEC win. Grace Hunger and Jessica Vargas added doubles for the Blackhawks and Hannah Beatus struck out 12 in earning the win in the circle. Kaitlyn Plocinski had 3 hits and 2 RBI for Geneva (7-3, 3-2). Alissa Dierks was the losing pitcher.

St. Charles North 17, East Aurora 2: Amanda James had a grand slam home run and Maddie Webb was the winning pitcher for the North Stars (6-1, 5-0) in the Upstate Eight.

West Chicago 8, Larkin 7: Alexa Urbanik was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Sam Wahl had 3 hits, Haley Bohne a double and 2 RBI and Hannah Gross 2 hits for Larkin in this UEC loss.

St. Charles East 17, Glenbard East 5: Maddy Stout had 3 hits with a home run and 5 RBI as the Saints (8-1, 2-1) won in the Upstate Eight. Kelly Rinker (2 hits, RBI), Rylee Stout (2 hits, 2B), Jordan Hieber (2B, 3 RBI) and Sara Campagna (2 RBI) also contributed for SCE. Delaney Devor was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 hits.

Hononegah 9, Huntley 5: Haley O'Mara had 2 hits with a home run and Jessica Shields 2 hits for Huntley (4-4) in this nonconference loss. Tiffany Giese was the losing pitcher.

Queen of Peace 14, Rosary 7: Xandria Olsen (RBI), Emma Molenhouse and Kallie Lentz (RBI) had 2 hits each for Rosary (1-2, 1-1) in this GCAC loss.

Glenbard South 2, ACC 1: In the Metro Suburban West, Aurora Central managed just 3 hits. Paige Miller had a double for the Chargers (7-5, 1-1) and Bridget Butler an RBI. Dani Brown took the loss in the circle.

Kaneland 8, Sycamore 1: Rachel Goress had 3 hits with a double and an RBI to lead the Knights (7-4, 1-2) to a Northern Illinois Big XII win. Lexi Abruzzo added 2 hits with a double, Aly Jesniowski had 3 RBI and Meg Cohrs drove in 2 runs for Kaneland. Courtney Davis earned the win in the circle, allowing 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks.

South Elgin 7, Streamwood 1: Stacey Bellack had 2 doubles and Amber Derr drove in 3 runs for the Storm (4-8, 2-3) in the Upstate Eight. Graceanne Aldred added 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI for South Elgin while Alexa Rogalla and Hannah Gordon had 2 hits each. Geneva Pollman was the winning pitcher, allowing 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks. Jessica Daley took the loss for the Sabres (4-6, 1-3).

Prairie Ridge 17, CL South 3: Taylor Kassel had a home run, a double and 2 RBI for Crystal Lake South (2-5, 0-4) in its FVC loss.

Luther North 14, Aurora Christian 7: In the Northeastern Athletic Conference, Sadie Nichols (2 hits, 2B), Tori Camarano (2B, 2 RBI) and Millie Britt (2 hits, 2B) were Aurora Christian's top hitters. Camarano was the losing pitcher for the Eagles (0-4, 0-2), who committed 9 errors.
