Baseball: Kaneland shuts down LaSalle-Peru

Matt O'Sullivan's single drove in Will Ring with the game's only run in the second inning Tuesday as Kaneland's baseball team defeated LaSalle-Peru 1-0 in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference game.

The Knights (2-3, 1-0) managed just 2 hits in the game but got a stellar effort on the mound from Jacob Violett, who scattered 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks in a complete-game effort.

Batavia 8, Larkin 3: Tyler Kledzik had 2 hits including a triple and 3 RBI to lead the Bulldogs (4-2, 1-2) to an Upstate Eight win. Jimmy Roach (2 hits, Luke Beckmann (2 hits, 2B) and Ben Lynam (2B, 2 RBI) also pitched in offensively for Batavia while Glen Albanese, Jr. allowed 2 hits and struck out 13 with 3 walks in 5 innings to earn the win. Cy Kerber and Andy Bonnot each drove in runs for Larkin (2-6, 0-5). Josh Frazier took the loss.

Aurora Christian 3, Luther North 0: In the Northeastern Athletic Conference, Dustin Barrett, RD Lutze and Tanner Dissell each drove in runs to lead the Eagles (6-2, 3-0). Drew Wagner added 2 hits. Jacob Brothers was the winning pitcher, going 4 innings and allowing 4 hits with 4 strikeouts.

Harvest Christian 4, Christian Liberty 3: Drew Lewis, Jack Nohava and Zach Pawelek each had RBI for the Lions (6-5, 1-2) in this NAC win. Joey Pepper picked up the win in relief.

CL South 10, Hoffman Estates 1: Tyler Carlson had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI and Michael Humphrey added 2 hits and 2 RBI as Crystal Lake South (8-0) won this nonconference game. Jason DeCicco and Eric Helm added doubles for the Gators, who got a combined 1-hitter from Keeton Ryza and Ethan Weinandy.

Marmion 3, Bartlett 0: Will Matthews, Bobby Pierce (2 hits) and Matt Henkel drove in the runs for Marmion (2-3) and Nick Brummel (6 hits, 4 strikeouts, 1 walk) threw 6 strong innings in the nonconference win. Brad Nowak had a double and Jimmy Johnson added 2 hits for Bartlett (2-7). Shane Donovan suffered the loss.

Jacobs 7, Prairie Ridge 4: Mike Addante went 4-for-4 and Stevie Krueger had 2 doubles and an RBI to lead the Golden Eagles (8-1, 2-0) to a Fox Valley Conference win. Casey Dennison added 2 hits and 2 RBI for Jacobs and Adam Kale had 2 hits. Dennison also picked up the win on the mound in a complete-game effort.

Cary-Grove 6, Grayslake Central 2: Also in the FVC, Ben Levicki had 2 hits with a triple and an RBI to lead the Trojans (8-4, 3-0). Dominic Calamari added 2 hits, Tyler Pennington had a double and an RBI and Nick Kirk had a double. Max Neilson picked up the win in relief.

ACC 11, St. Edward 8: Patrick Flanagan drove in 3 runs, Jimmy Laurenti had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Michael Bieterman had 2 hits as Aurora Central outlasted St. Edward in eight innings in the Metro Suburban West. Sean Sinisko and Jake Smith each doubled for the Chargers (9-4, 3-1) and Smith earned the win in relief. Jason Allen (2 hits, RBI), Matthew Schimbke (2 hits, RBI), Noah Enright (2 hits, RBI) and Ben Harrington (2 RBI) led the Green Wave (2-8, 0-5). Dylan Murray took the loss.

Benet 5, West Aurora 1: Oscar Acevedo had 2 hits and Jake Arsenault a double for West Aurora (2-5) in this nonconference loss. James Reilly was the losing pitcher.

CL Central 3, Hampshire 2: Kyle Homa had 2 hits and Kevin Michaelsen drove in a run for Hampshire (5-6, 1-2) in this FVC loss. Alex Mahaz was the losing pitcher.

St. Charles North 3, Streamwood 1: Brenden Norberg drove in 2 runs and had 2 hits and Luke Corcoran added 2 hits as the North Stars (6-2, 3-0) held off Streamwood (1-7, 0-4) in the Upstate Eight. John Legare added a double for SCN and Christian Sidoti picked up the win in relief. Adam Sojda suffered the loss for the Sabres.

Burlington Central 11, Richmond-Burton 4: John Murphy was 4-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI to lead BC (5-5, 3-0) to a Big Northern East win. Also contributing for Central were Clay Milas (2 hits, RBI), Craig Schuring (3 hits, 2B, RBI), Ryan Knowlton (2 hits, 2 RBI), Josh Noeska (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Brandon VanBuren (2 hits) and Holden Morris (2B). Schuring was the winning pitcher, allowing 3 hits with 12 strikeouts and 2 walks in 5⅔ innings.

Wheeling 5, Elgin 4: Hayden Gibson had 2 RBI for Elgin (3-7) in this nonconference loss. Matt Turner was the losing pitcher.

Westminster Christian 11, Alden-Hebron 6: Ian Merlak had 3 hits with a double while Matthew Schulenburg (2B, 2 RBI), Nathen Martinez (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Justin Rasmussen (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Theron Dorsey (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Mason Runkel (2 doubles, RBI) also contributed for the Warriors (2-10, 2-0) in their NAC win. Tyler Schoemann struck out 13 and allowed just 3 hits in the complete game win on the mound.
