Boys track and field: Hoffman Estates claims victory at Palatine

Hoffman Estates prevailed in a close matchup with Palatine in boys track and field on Tuesday.

The Hawks edged the Pirates 71-68 and Hersey finished at 44 in a Mid-Suburban League triangular meet hosted by Palatine.

Declan Rustay was a double track winner for Hoffman Estates, taking top honors in the 100-meter dash (11.0) and the 200 dash (22.4).

The Hawks also a had double field champ as Jalen Hill cleared 5-foot-11 in the high jump and 22-6½ in the long jump.

Palatine won all four relays and had individual wins from Dan Garcia in the 110 high hurdles (15.6), John Elischer in the 300 intermediates (40.1) and Brian Leonard in the 800 run (2:05.5).

Among Hersey's winners were Kevin Paton in the 3,200 (9:56.6), Alex Nickens in the 400 (53.8), Sigmund Serranilla in the pole vault (9-9) and Clayton Smith in the discus (134-0).

Fremd tops Meadows, BG: Fremd's Jaden Jackson won both hurdles races and the Vikings made a clean sweep of the field events in totaling 81 points to better Rolling Meadows (52) and Buffalo Grove (28).

Ethan Hanson won the shot with a toss of 54-0 for Fremd.

Rolling Meadows' winners included Nigel Wilson in the 100 (11.1), and Buffalo Grove's Tom Cleary won the 3,200 (10:09.4).

Wheeling betters Barrington, Conant: The host Wildcats amassed 97.5 points to beat Barrington (71.5) and Conant in an MSL triangular.

Senior Josh Diaz set the tone for Wheeling with individual wins in the 110 high hurdles (15.4) and the 300 hurdles (42.0). Jason Shannon also won twice, in the 100 dash (10.9) and the 200 (22.9).

Among Wheeling's other event wins were pole vault (Angel Villegas), high jump (Lawrence Kanish) and long jump (Dylan Draka).

Barrington's Louis Cossio won in the 400 dash (51.9), and Conant's Chris DiGioa prevailed in the 800 run (2:07.5).
