Softball: Barrington blanks Glenbard East
Carly Kordich was a hit on her 17th birthday on Saturday.
Make that, 2 hits.
The junior Barrington center fielder went 2-for-4 with 2 runs and 2 stolen bases to help the Fillies to a 7-0 shutout over Glenbard East at the Fields of Dreams on Saturday afternoon.
"Carly did a really nice job with the bat," said Barrington coach Perry Peterson. "We were happy with the results she received."
The results of the shutout were a combined effort on the mound from sophomores Caroline Hoppe (1-0) and Catherine McMahon (6-1), who each gave up only 1 hit.
In winning her first varsity game, Hoppe threw the final 4 innings, striking out five with 2 walks. McMahon went the first three innings and struck out one.
The Fillies' other multiple hitter was sophomore Abbey Jacobsen, who also went 2-for-4.
Freshman Kendall Peterson delivered the Fillies' only other hit, a single to left with two outs in the fourth inning.
Schaumburg 14, Glenbard West 2 (6 inn): Junior Michelle Birkholz (1-1) earned the win and senior Christina Candotti belted a home run.
Paige Alt (3-for-4, RBI), Micaela Encarnacion (2-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs), Cate Poplar (2-for-2, double, 4 RBI) and Janalee Lyke (3-3, 2 RBI) were multiple hitters for Schaumburg.
Birkholz also had a hit for the defending Mid-Suburban League champions, who improved to 2-3 with their second straight win.
