Public comment period extended on NGA headquarters

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency is granting more time for public comment on a preliminary decision to build a $1.6 billion headquarters in Missouri instead of Illinois.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1S9zSk8) agency director Robert Cardillo announced Friday that people now have until May 2 to weigh in on the project that is tentatively slated for St. Louis.

That gives officials in Illinois some extra time to try and steer the project to a site near Scott Air Force Base in St. Clair County.

The National Geospatial-Intelligence uses satellite imagery to make maps and other data tools for military and intelligence agencies. The new headquarters is expected to create 3,100 jobs.
