Softball: Reed homers in Lakes' 4-1 win at Barrington

Lakes' Jen Reed belted a solo home run and went 2-for-2 as the Eagles softball team topped Barrington 4-1 at the Fields of Dreams on Friday.

The game was switched to Barrington but Lakes was the home team.

Winning pitcher Ally Perdue tossed a 3-hitter with 4 strikeouts.

She got a 2-0 lead in the second inning, the first run produced by Reed's homer.

Also going 2-for-2 for the Eagles (4-2) was Kelsey Ulrich as Lakes handed Barrington its first loss in seven games.

Antioch 6, Vernon Hills 4 (8 inn.): The visiting Sequoits snapped a 2-2 tie by scoring 4 runs in the eighth of the North Suburban Prairie contest, before the Cougars rallied in the bottom of the inning.

A pinch-hit single put runners on first and third with two out for Vernon Hills, but the game ended when the umpires ruled that the Cougars had not reported the pinch hitter.

Deighton Butenschoen was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Antioch (8-1, 2-0), which won its eighth game in a row. Jill Foote and Ashley Stephens had doubles for the Sequoits.

Sami Saliba was 2-for-3 for Vernon Hills, which also got a double and 2 RBI from Sara Lenzi.

Hannah Cook earned the win in relief, pitching 5⅔ innings. She allowed 3 hits and 0 earned runs, and struck out three.
