Naperville extends TV camera deal

Ever see those aerial shots of downtown Naperville on the morning news?

Those are likely to continue after the city renewed a contract with CBS Broadcasting Inc. that allows the company to operate a remote-controlled weather camera on the roof of the municipal center for free.

CBS and WBBM-TV operate the camera via the Internet and use it to show images of the Riverwalk, Nichols Library, Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Naper Settlement and the Millennium Carillon.

The city allows the news organization to use the camera for free because of the promotional value of the images it provides, according to a memo from Kristen Foley, senior assistant city attorney.

The city council unanimously approved a new 10-year agreement during a meeting this week.
