Boys volleyball: Vernon Hills handles Mundelein

Jared Bennett pounded 7 kills and served 6 aces, and Vernon Hills' boys volleyball team defeated host Mundelein 25-17, 25-16 in a North Suburban Conference match Wednesday night.

The match also served as a fundraiser for the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

"We had a great crowd tonight," Mundelein coach George Dressen Jr. said. "They were very generous with giving to a great cause. We thank everyone who was at the event."

Linden Ewing had 4 kills, 3 assists, 1 block and 1 ace for Mundelein (0-7, 0-1). 3 Jake Schroetter and 7 Abram Nazano each had 2 kills for the Mustangs, while Jose Reyes lofted 5 assists.

Jake Fiarito was 34-of-35 setting with 14 assists for Vernon Hills (3-5, 2-0). Vernon Hills also received 3 kills from Matt Kushnir and two apiece from Johnny McDonald and Chris Winter. Zak Umansky was 7-of-9 serving with 2 aces and also recorded a team-best 6 digs.

Libertyville d. North Chicago: Jack Stevens rang up 4 kills, 2 blocks, 3 aces and 4 digs, as the Wildcats won 25-8, 25-5 in North Suburban action.

Ryan Hirschel dished out 11 assists and served 4 aces. Libertyville also received contributions from Tanner Dorow (3 assists, 1 ace, 2 digs), Brendan Cook (3 kills, 1 block), Ben Skeens (1 kill, 2 blocks), Matt Franz (1 kill, 3 blocks), Shane Feiereisel (3 blocks, 2 kills), Mark Demaree (3 blocks, 1 kill), Carl Heard (3 blocks, 1 kill), Steven Donovan (5 aces, 5 digs) and Ryan Winiger (2 aces, 6 digs).

"Nice performances across the board," coach Jenny Smith said.

Lake Forest d. Antioch: The Scouts won the North Suburban match 25-18, 25-16.

Antioch's Kristian Jimenez had 2 blocks, 2 kills and 5 service points.
