Arlington Heights recognized for Salvation Army donations

The Salvation Army on Monday recognized Arlington Heights for fostering a community of residents with the giving spirit.

David Martinez, corps officer with the Salvation Army, presented village officials with a special recognition for its participation in the annual bell ringing fundraising campaign during the holiday season.

"We just want to say thank you. We at the Salvation Army get the privilege of helping thousands of your neighbors throughout the year, but we are only able to do that because of the support we get from the community," Martinez said.

Of the 11 suburbs participating in the bell ringing campaign, Martinez said donors in Arlington Heights contribute more than 20 percent of the total money raised.

Village President Tom Hayes said he was proud to accept the recognition for the village and said Arlington Heights has always had "a very healthy volunteer spirit."
