Baseball: Camacho in command as Elk Grove tops St. Viator
Visiting Elk Grove got a terrific pitching performance in picking up a 7-0 victory over St. Viator's baseball team Tuesday.
Grens senior Christian Camacho fired a complete-game 2-hitter, striking out 11 and walking none.
Camacho and Ryan Uehara each had a pair of hits as Elk Grove (4-3) came up with 8 singles and 2 walks to win its second straight. Joe Lopez and A.J. Lorenz each drove in 2 runs, and Chuck Flemin and Jack McEnroe both had 1 RBI.
Dan Sullivan (double) and Cole Kment had the hits for St. Viator (5-4).
Hoffman Estates 6, Bartlett 3 (6 inn.): Ryan Ward and reliever Lucas Barnes combined to limit host Bartlett to 3 runs in a game shortened by rain.
Ward tossed the first 3 innings, allowing 2 earned runs, an picked up the win. Barnes yielded 1 earned run over 3 innings and struck out four to earn a save.
Marc Gonzalez, Dylan Bloom and Luke Kulton had 2 hits each, and Ryan Davalos had 2 RBI to lead the offensive production for Hoffman Estates (4-1).
Wheeling 10, Lake Forest Academy 0: The visiting Wildcats came up with 7 hits (including a triple from Kyle Bullock) and took advantage of 4 Caxys errors to claim a nonconference win.
Brian Maloney tossed a complete game 4-hitter for Wheeling to get the win.
Bullock drove in 4 runs, while Alex Khatcherian and leadoff man Mike Wiase both had 2 hits.
Aurora Christian 10, Christian Liberty 4: Peter Grob came up with a double, but the visiting Eagles out-hit the Chargers 10-5 and took advantage of 3 Christian Liberty errors.
Maine West 8, Buffalo Grove 7 (6 inn.): The host Warriors rallied with 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, after which the contest was called due to rain.
Alex Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with a triple and 3 RBI for Maine West and Brad Uidl had a pair of hits.
Matt Willett earned a victory in relief after producing 1⅓ scoreless innings.
Both Chase Marsh and Cedric Cavazos doubled and drove in 2 runs for Buffalo Grove (2-5).
Hersey 5, Evanston 4: Tanner Luke homered and also contributed on the mount as the host Huskies prevailed in nonconference action.
Luke allowed 2 unearned runs in 3⅔ innings, and Adam Schliesmann got the win after allowing 2 earned runs in 2⅓ innings.
Owen Goldsberry doubled and drove in 3 runs, while Matt Abfall had a pair of hits for Hersey (4-3).
St. Charles East 5, Palatine 1: Chris Refka hit a solo homer and allowed 1 earned run over 5 innings, but the Pirates (4-4) couldn't get much going against three Saints pitchers in a nonconference loss. Brendan Walker had 2 of the 5 hits for Palatine.
Hinsdale South 4, Schaumburg 0: The Saxons (6-3) got a double from Parker Nolan but could only produce 4 hits in a nonconference loss. Jack Bellinger tossed 5 shutout innings for Schaumburg before Hinsdale South scored 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Niles West 3, Rolling Meadows 1: The visiting slipped to 0-4 with a nonconference road loss.
