Officials: Missing Grayslake motorcyclist died from head injuries

A 24-year-old Grayslake man whose body was found Sunday died from multiple head injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash, authorities said Monday.

Orlando Portillo, chief deputy of the Lake County coroner's office, said an autopsy into the death of Seth J. Goodwin showed alcohol intoxication was a contributing factor in the crash.

Goodwin's body was found about 11:40 a.m. Sunday, some five days after he was reported missing. The body was found partially submerged in water in a culvert on the west side of Route 45, north of Dada Drive in Lake Villa Township, authorities said.

Lake County Sheriff's Det. Christopher Covelli said the location was so remote it was "extremely difficult to be seen by a passing vehicle."

Goodwin was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Covelli added.

Police said they had been looking for Goodwin since Tuesday after he left the Fog Cutter Bar, 36021 Route 45 in Lindenhurst, about 1:30 a.m. March 28 to visit his girlfriend in Antioch.

A bicyclist discovered a 1998 Kawasaki motorcycle in the culvert Sunday and called police, authorities said.

Portillo said Goodwin was pronounced dead at the scene.
