Softball: Rain halts MSL softball teams
Softball games involving Mid-Suburban League teams were either postponed before they began or saw a few innings of action before the rain fell late Friday afternoon.
Buffalo Grove trailed Grayslake Central 4-2 after four innings and the game will be resumed on Tuesday.
Junior Katie Fontanetta (1-for-1), junior Jasmine Avalos (1-for-2, triple, 2 RBI) and sophomore Olivia Morini (1-for-1, 1 run) had hits for BG (2-2) while freshman teammate Hannah Young scored a run.
• At Wheeling, the Wildcats were leading Lake Forest 3-2 in their season opener when it was postponed after 2½ innings.
Sophomore Olivia Walker had a hit for the Wildcats while sophomore pitcher Dakota Medrano struck out two.
No make up date has been announced yet.
• Marshfield High School's softball team made the 4½-hour trip from Wisconsin to visit Hersey.
Unfortunately, only three innings were played until play was halted.
Marshfield led 5-1. Hersey (2-2) had hits from juniors Remy Gerew and Kaitlyn Denten in a game that will not be rescheduled.
Marshfield left the area for Oswego, where it is scheduled to play on Saturday.
