Baseball: Jacobs, Cary-Grove notch wins in Marion

Stevie Krueger, Cameron Wilson (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Tim Randl (2 hits, 2B), Casey Dennison (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI) and Bryce Pahl (2B, 3 RBI) led the Jacobs offense as the Golden Eagles' baseball team moved to 6-1 for the season Tuesday with a 10-0 win over Frankfurt in a game played in downstate Marion.

Brenden Heiss and Jeff Anders combined on a 3-hitter on the mound for the Eagles.

Cary-Grove 13, Murphysboro 1: Also in Marion, the Trojans got 3 hits including a triple an 2 RBI from Ben Levicki to win for the third time this season against three losses. Also contributing to C-G's 13-hit attack were Quinn Celske (2 RBI), Tyler Pennington (2B, 3B, 2 RBI), Tom Neilson (2 hits) and Zach Willis (3 RBI). Mark Smith picked up the win on the mound, going 4 innings and allowing no hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks. He got relief help from Nick Kirk and Max Neilson.

Waubonsie Valley 3, Bartlett 0: Cameron Mays had Bartlett's only hit in this nonconference loss. Tripp Paris suffered the loss on the mound for the Hawks (2-3).

Prospect 2, St. Charles East 1: Austin Gift (RBI) and Anthony Adduci each had doubles for the Saints (2-3) in their nonconference loss. Keegan Kochis suffered the loss on the mound in relief of Steve Podany. SCE committed 4 errors, leading to both Prospect runs being unearned.

ICCP sweeps St. Edward: In a Metro Suburban West doubleheader, IC Catholic downed the Green Wave 9-1 and 12-4. In Game 1, losing pitcher Karl Bibler had 2 hits and Nolan Theriault a double for St. Edward. In the second game, Joe Esposito had 2 RBI and Tyler Holte a double and an RBI for St. Edward (1-5, 0-2). Holte was also the losing pitcher.

Glenbard North 10, West Aurora 7: Logan Love and Jake Arsenault (2 hits, 2 RBI) each had doubles for West Aurora (0-4) in this nonconference loss. Win Kipp suffered the loss on the mound.

Burlington Central 10, Harvey (OH) 2: In Myrtle Beach, S.C., Brandon Van Buren pitched a solid 6 innings allowing 3 hits with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks to lead the Rockets (2-2) to the win. Central had 12 hits, all singles, led by 3 from Paddy McKermitt (RBI) and 2 each from Clay Milas, Killian Vasica and Ryan Knowlton (2 RBI). John Murphy also drove in 2 runs.

Nitro (WV) 2, Kaneland 0: Playing its season opener in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Kaneland's only 2 hits were doubles from Jake Marczuk and Rich Szewczyk. Matt O'Sullivan suffered the loss on the mound, allowing just 3 hits with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks in 6 innings.

Conant 10, Streamwood 0: Singles from Keagan Cordone, Daniel Mikosz and Jessie Rico were the only hits for Streamwood (1-2) in this nonconference loss.

South Elgin 9, Buffalo Grove 6: Winning pitcher Nate Gomez went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI to help the Storm (2-2) to a nonconference win. Gomez pitched the final 3 innings in relief of Adam Walker and allowed just 1 hit with 6 strikeouts and no walks. Bryant Diel (3 hits, RBI), Mitch Butvilas (2B, RBI), Joe Roberson (2B, 3 RBI) and Michael Cipriani (2 hits, 2 RBI) also contributed to the South Elgin offense.

Aurora Christian 11, Harvest Christian 1: Dustin Barrett had 3 hits including 2 doubles and 2 RBI to lead the Eagles to a win in their season opener. Drew Wagner (2 hits, 2B), Drew Henning (2B) and Ethan Stoneberg (2B, 2 RBI) also contributed to the offense. RD Lutze was the winning pitcher. Joey Pepper had 2 hits for Harvest Christian (3-2).
