Sheryl Crow joins Naperville Ribfest headliners

Sheryl Crow is ready to "Soak Up the Sun" this summer at Naperville's Ribfest.

Organizers announced Thursday that the nine-time Grammy winner will headline the 29th annual event on Saturday, July 2.

"Sheryl Crow is an American icon and we are thrilled to add her to our lineup this summer," Ribfest Chairwoman Jen Odin Cavalier said in a statement.

Crow joins a growing list of performers scheduled to play at the festival, which runs July 1 through 4 in Knoch Park near downtown. Last week, rock band 3 Doors Down was named the opening night headliner.

Ray Kinney, a member of the Exchange Club of Naperville, which plans the fest, said organizers are hopeful Crow will draw a large and diverse crowd.

"She's had such a long career and she's kind of gone from contemporary rock to country to singer-songwriter stuff," he said. "I think she's attractive to people who are young and old."

Crow has sold more than 35 million albums worldwide since gaining fame in the early 1990s. Some of her most popular songs, such as "If It Makes You Happy" and "Every Day Is A Winding Road," have landed on the Top 40 charts for several genres, including hot country and adult contemporary. Her most recent album, "Feels Like Home," was released in 2013.

Other Ribfest performers, including a national headliner for July 4, are expected to be announced in coming weeks.

"It's shaping up to be a very good year for entertainment," Kinney said.
