Girls soccer: Kaneland blanks Hampshire for 3rd straight win

Domination.

Kaneland, which outshot Hampshire 32-2, cruised past the Whip-Purs 7-0 in nonconference girls action in Hampshire Monday afternoon.

The Knights who have outscored their first three opponents 20-0, moved to 3-0 for the 2016 campaign while Hampshire is 0-1 on the season.

"We are improving every day in practice and in every game," said Kaneland coach Scott Parillo. "That is an encouraging sign. I have liked the way we come to play and score early. We got 21 kids in the game in the first half. It was a good effort by our girls."

Kaneland, which led 5-0 at halftime, was led by senior midfielder Kiandra Powell who scored 3 goals with 2 assists.

"The through balls were great," said Powell. "I was getting the ball in great position to score. We have really come ready to play in the first three games and scored early. We have some young players who are very talented and are very mature."

Powell got plenty of help on the offensive end as Holly Collingbourne and Becca Richtman scored 2 goals each for the winners.

Collingbourne, Kylie Kurz and Haley Lemp added assists for the Knights.

'We have a lot of kids who can score," said Parillo. 'Our passing and team play was good today and has been good all season."

The lone bright spot for the Whip-Purs was the play of goalkeeper Catherine Kochanski, who registered 24 saves.

"Catherine shared time in the goal last season." said Hampshire coach Sara O' Toole. "Kaneland could have easily scored 10 goals or more. Catherine was phenomenal. She made some great saves. She has really improved from last season."

After allowing 5 goals during the first 40 minutes, the Whip-Purs gave the Knights only 2 goals in the second half.

"We changed defenses at halftime and we were much better in the second half," said O' Toole. "We defended well and didn't give them as many good shots in the second half."

Emily Chapman and Emma Ball, who shared time in the net for the Knights, each recorded 1 save.

"This was our first game and Kaneland's third," said O' Toole. "That was a big advantage for them. They are a very talented team and a very fast team. They are very difficult to defend. This was a tough opener for us. I was pleased with our effort. The girls played hard."
