Geneva man charged with burglary, stabbing homeowner

A Geneva man has been charged with trying to burglarize a garage over the weekend and stabbing a homeowner that he scuffled with, according to Kane County Court records and police.

Ronald D. Anderson, 43, of the 300 block of Brittany Court, is being held at the Kane County jail on $500,000 bail meaning he must post $50,000 to be released while the charges are pending.

He is charged with armed violence, residential burglary and four counts of aggravated battery, including two accusing him of using a deadly weapon. They are all felonies, and stem from a matter that occurred late Friday night and spilled over into Saturday morning, according to reports.

According to a Geneva police report, officers responded at 11:30 p.m. Friday to the 300 block of Cape Way for a report of a burglary in progress. The caller told police her husband was fighting the burglar, who eventually ran northeast from the home.

The husband was treated at Delnor Hospital for minor cuts and bruises, along with two deep lacerations from being stabbed in the side.

Anderson was arrested Saturday morning on the 1800 block of Williamsburg Avenue, according to a police report. The husband told police he heard noises in his garage earlier in the night and saw a man wearing a black jacket, black hat and gloves and black neck warmer pulled up over his nose holding a bag of the homeowner's tools. The homeowner yelled at the man, later identified as Anderson, and chased him and tackled him, the report said.

During the altercation a small black dog who was on a leash held by Anderson bit the homeowner on the leg; he also was cut twice by a "bladed weapon," the report said.

If convicted of the most severe charge, Anderson faces up six to 30 years in prison without the possibility of probation. He is next due in court on March 30.
