Mundelein kindergartners ready to trap leprechauns

Fremont Elementary School kindergartners have leprechaun fever.

Students were instructed to build leprechaun traps at home and present them to their class Wednesday.

"This is a family project. They take it home and do it with their family and bring it back," kindergarten teacher Tracy Golden said.

During class, students explained how their traps work. Before leaving for the day, they set the traps throughout the classroom. When they return to school Thursday on St. Patrick;s Day, they will see if their traps worked.

Past years have proved futile as the traps have not prevented leprechauns from overturning chairs, turning toilet water green, leaving messy footprints on their desks, and so on.

One upside is the leprechauns usually leave gold for the kids.

"This is one of their favorite times of the year. They get really excited. They buy into it," Golden added.
