Boy hit by car crossing street in Arlington Heights

An young boy was hit by a car in Arlington Heights on Wednesday night but is expected to recover.

The boy, who was under the age of 10 but is not being identified, was leaving Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 434 W. Park Street, at 5:15 p.m. when he was hit by a car driving south on Mitchell Street, said Sgt. Alan Baumgartner.

"There was no way the driver could have seen him," Baumgartner said, adding that the boy ran out into the road in front of a parked car and was not at a crosswalk.

The woman who was driving is not expected to be cited, he said.

The boy's family was on the scene when the accident happened and the boy was alert when he was taken to Northwest Community Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
