Pedestrian killed, afternoon trains halted on Metra's BNSF Line

A Metra BNSF train struck and killed a pedestrian Tuesday afternoon, halting service for thousands of commuters.

Metra officials are advising BNSF riders heading home to the suburbs to stay at work and check the agency's website for train status or wait in the staging area in the Great Hall at Union Station.

A pedestrian on the tracks near the Cicero station was hit and killed at about 3:30 p.m. and police are still investigating the crash.

"We have to wait for investigating authorities to clear us to move again," spokesman Michael Gillis said.
