Skillicorn takes lead in House 66th District Republican primary

Allen Skillicorn maintained his lead Tuesday among three candidates contending for the Republican nomination in the House 66th District race.

Unofficial vote totals with 50 of 71 precincts counted show Skillicorn received 2,757 votes, Dan Wilbrandt captured 2,390 votes, and Carolyn Schofield garnered 1,933 votes with all of Kane County and some McHenry County precincts reporting.

A fourth candidate, Paul Serwatka of Lakewood, whose name appeared on the ballot although he withdrew from the race, received 748 votes.

The candidates are vying for the two-year seat being vacated by incumbent Republican Mike Tryon, who is not seeking another term.

Schofield, 43, is a former Crystal Lake council member and current McHenry County Board member. Skillicorn, 41, is an East Dundee village trustee. Wilbrandt is a West Dundee trustee and assistant state's attorney in McHenry County.

The primary winner will face Democrat Nancy Zettler of Algonquin in November.
