Hunt wins chance to be re-elected Kane County auditor
Kane County Auditor Terry Hunt is a step closer to being re-elected Kane County auditor, with a strong win Tuesday in the Republican primary.
With all 291 precincts reporting, the Sugar Grove resident got 59 percent of the votes compared to 41 percent for Craig Lee, of Geneva, according to unofficial Kane County election results.
Hunt now advances to the Nov. 8 general election. No Democrat filed for to run in the primary, although the party could appoint a candidate.
Hunt first won the auditor's seat in 2012.
Lee was critical of the county's rules regarding how employees use county-issued credit cards, and accused Hunt's office of going overbudget.
Hunt countered his office's expenditures are within his budget and a $12,000 outlay was spent on computer software to increase government transparency.
He said the county reviewed and updated its credit card procedures and every expenditure is reviewed at least twice before the credit card company is paid.
