Weather causes more than 100 flight cancellations at Midway
More than 100 flights at Midway International Airport have been canceled because of weather conditions, officials said.
Chicago Department of Aviation officials said rain and low visibility in the Chicago area caused some airlines to begin to cancel flights Sunday afternoon and evening.
At 7:45 a.m. Monday, the department of aviation announced 100 flights were canceled today at Midway.
Southwest canceled all inbound and outbound flights at Midway from Sunday evening until 9 a.m. Monday, airline spokeswoman Emily Samuels said. About 50 flights are affected.
"We always have to keep safety top of mind," she said. "The weather is not permitting to operate safely."
Samuels said Southwest officials will continue monitoring the weather into Monday morning.
The Chicago Department of Aviation is asking travelers to contact their airlines to check flight information if they are flying into or out of Midway.
Airlines are operating normally out of O'Hare International Airport, officials said.
