Images: #TBT Gallery features dance in the suburbs

It's hard to say when dancing actually began. It's been a form of expression throughout the history of man and included dancing for religious purposes, entertainment, celebration and even exercise.

Television reality shows like 'Dancing with the Stars' have boosted local interest in ballroom and salsa dancing.

This week's #TBT Gallery takes a look at dancers and dances in the Chicago suburbs from 1969-1971.

In this gallery, we give you a glimpse inside Schaumburg and Wheeling Park District ballet classes, a look at costumes and customs of Ukrainian folk dancers in Palatine and see girl scouts and their dads enjoying a square dance in Elk Grove Village.
