Forest district to sell surplus items online

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County will sell surplus and unclaimed items through a series of online auctions that will run mid-March through October.

Items will be auctioned through weekly bidding periods and include vehicles, furniture, office equipment and bicycles.

Beginning Wednesday, March 16, a list of items and confirmed auction dates will be posted and updated regularly on the district's website at www.dupageforest.org, as well as on its Facebook and Twitter pages.

Bidding for the first auction opens at 3 p.m. Monday, March 21, at www.govdeals.com/dupageforest, which will have photos and details for each item. The Web page will only be active during live auctions.

"These online auctions help the district repurpose items so we can keep them out of landfills," Commissioner Al Murphy said.

Interested bidders who want to view the items in person at the district's Fleet Management facility should schedule appointments weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. by calling (630) 580-7100. Viewing will be by appointment only during the weeks active auctions are taking place.

"Online auctions like these generate revenue for the district to help offset the cost of providing programs and services for visitors," said Joe Cantore, forest district president.
