Endorsement: Hill on Republican ballot for McHenry recorder of deeds

The main question in the Republican primary for McHenry County recorder of deeds is whether the office should be merged with the county clerk's office.

While it's legitimate for candidate Joe Tirio to ask that question, it's also important to be able to find efficiencies within the existing system.

Being the recorder of deeds means being an advocate for the department. With longtime incumbent - since 1984! - Phyllis Walters retiring, it's an opportunity to take a fresh and perhaps critical look to see where doing things differently can provide benefits.

Candidate Joni Smith has experience from working within the office, so she would be an excellent advocate. But candidate Tina Hill adds experience from her time on the county board, and she would bring that fresh look at the office's operations.

Hill is endorsed.
