Second person dies after crash near Libertyville

A second person has died from injuries she suffered in a three-vehicle crash north of Libertyville, Lake County sheriff's police said Saturday.

The driver and a passenger in a Chevy Blazer were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries after the crash Friday morning, police Det. Christopher Covelli said.

The 34-year-old driver, Dawn M. Eyler, of Salem, Wisconsin, died later Friday.

The 22-year-old passenger, Alexis J. Thompson, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, died Saturday, police said.

An autopsy on Eyler's body is scheduled for Monday morning.

Police were called to the crash shortly after 9 a.m. Friday near Milwaukee Avenue at Casey Road, and officials found two of the vehicles were severely damaged.

A preliminary investigation showed a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling south on Milwaukee Avenue, north of Casey Road, and the Chevy Blazer was traveling in the same direction behind the Jeep, police said.

The Blazer struck the Jeep's rear bumper as the vehicles approached Casey Road. The driver of the Blazer lost control, drove over a raised median and went into the northbound lanes where it struck a Chevy Silverado pickup, police said.

The driver of the pickup also was taken to Condell with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the Jeep refused medical treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
