Lake County welcomes One Earth Film Festival

The One Earth Film Festival comes to Lake County March 5 and 6. As the Midwest's premier environmental film festival, it shares thought-provoking films that shed light on vital issues and highlight effective solutions.

The College of Lake County, Conserve Lake County, Faith in Place, Liberty Prairie Foundation, Montessori School of Lake Forest and Prairie Crossing Charter School are sponsoring the film festival, held at CLC and two other Lake County schools.

Following each film, there will be a brief discussion and opportunities to learn about how to get involved with local environmental groups.

The lineup of films is as follows:

• 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5: "Saving My Tomorrow" at Prairie Crossing Charter School, 531 Jones Point Road, Grayslake. This family-friendly film shares kids' inspiring thoughts on subjects ranging from endangered animals and pollution to climate change.

• 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5: "This Changes Everything," College of Lake County Grayslake Campus, C005 Auditorium. This film is an epic attempt to re-imagine the challenge of climate change. It introduces communities on the front lines and challenges viewers to seize this crisis and transform their economic system into something radically better.

• 1 p.m. Sunday, March 6: "Inhabit: A Permaculture Perspective," College of Lake County Grayslake Campus, C005 Auditorium. "Inhabit" explores permaculture, a design method that offers an ecological lens for solving diverse issues related to agriculture, economics and more.

• 4 p.m. Sunday, March 6: "A Farmer's Road" at the Montessori School of Lake Forest, 13700 W. Laurel Dive, Lake Forest. The film tells the story of two Ph.D. soil scientists who traded the security of tenure at a major research university for the challenges and economic uncertainty of operating Prairie Fruits & Creamery in central Illinois.

The suggested donation is $5 for the general public and free for students. Tickets are available at www.oneearthfilmfest.org. This is the fifth annual One Earth Film Festival, which will showcase 35 thought-provoking films on a variety of environmental topics in Chicagoland March 4-6.
