One killed, another injured in crash near Libertyville

One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash north of Libertyville, Lake County sheriff's police said Friday.

Milwaukee Avenue between Route 137 and Route 120 in Grayslake is expected to remain closed until early afternoon while the investigation continues.

Police received a call at 9:03 a.m. for a crash with injuries on Milwaukee Avenue at Casey Road, and officials found two of the vehicles were severely damaged.

According to police Det. Christopher Covelli, a preliminary investigation showed a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling south on Milwaukee Avenue, north of Casey Road, and a Chevy Blazer was traveling in the same direction behind the Jeep.

The Blazer struck the Jeep's rear bumper as the vehicles approached Casey Road. The driver of the Blazer lost control, drove over a raised median and went into the northbound lanes where it struck a Chevy Silverado pickup, Covelli said.

The driver and a passenger in the Blazer were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries, Covelli said, and one subsequently died. Police did not release further details pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the pickup also was taken to Condell with nonlife threatening injuries, and the driver of the Jeep refused medical treatment.
